Overview
This page provides a detailed guide on how to silently install and activate the Josys browser extension on macOS devices using Jamf.
Target Audience
Administrators planning and executing the bulk deployment of the Josys browser extension.
About the Browser Extension
Please refer to the following pages first for information regarding the browser extension.
Silent Activation Steps
Simply installing the browser extension is not enough to start detecting SaaS usage. Activation requires passing information such as the "Josys Organization ID" and the "email address of the user registered in Josys" to the extension. This allows the extension to recognize "which employee in which organization is using the SaaS/application" and begin detection.
1. Prerequisites
1-1. Verify your Organization ID.
Log in to Josys and click the icon in the top right corner to verify your Organization ID.
1-2. Verify how user information is managed in Jamf Pro.
- Log in to Jamf Pro and open "Computers".
- Click "Search Inventory".
- Click "Search" in the top right corner.
- Select and click any of the displayed devices.
- Click "User and Location" in the left sidebar.
- Check if the "Username" and "Email Address" fields are populated in the list on the right.
- Check a few other devices in the same way.
If only one of these fields is populated, it will affect the script used later.
2. Deploying the Activation Settings
- Go to "Computers" > "Configuration Profiles".
- Click "+ New" in the top right corner.
- Verify that the "General" tab of the "New macOS Configuration Profile" screen is open, and enter the following details:
Name: (e.g., Josys Extension Config)
Description: (Optional) - Once entered, go to "Application & Custom Settings" > "Upload" from the menu, and click "+ Add".
- A form will appear. Enter the following in the "Preference Domain" field.
- For Google Chrome: com.google.Chrome.extensions.moaklgcgokbgplldonjkoochhlefkbjf
- For Microsoft Edge: com.microsoft.Edge.extensions.hjifncajikcdkhlofdjjlhcjoennmdfc
- For the "Property List", please update the script below before using it.
▽ Parts to Update
Replace "Enter Organization ID" with the Organization ID you verified in Josys.
If the "Email Address" field was empty in Jamf Pro, change "UserEmail" to "UserName".
If the "Email Address" field was empty in Jamf Pro, change "$EMAIL" to "$USERNAME".<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>OrganizationKey</key> <string>Enter Organization ID</string> <key>UserEmail</key> <string>$EMAIL</string> </dict> </plist>
- Once entered, click "Scope".
- When the Scope tab opens, click "Add".
- Click "Computer Groups".
- Find the target group for deployment and click "Add" on the far right.
We recommend testing with a test group first. - Once selected, click "Done" in the top right corner.
- Click "Save" in the bottom right corner.
This completes the silent activation setup. Next, proceed to the silent installation.
